Senate Bill 2805

AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 71-5-515, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REQUIRE THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT SECURITY TO ENACT RULES AND REGULATIONS THAT REQUIRE AN INDIVIDUAL TO PRESENT PHOTOGRAPHIC IDENTIFICATION WHEN MAKING A CLAIM FOR UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 71-5-515, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

     71-5-515.  (1)  Claims for benefits shall be made in accordance with such regulations as the commission may prescribe.  The commission shall, by regulation, require an individual to present at least one (1) document bearing his photograph when making a claim for benefits and specify those documents which may be accepted to verify an individual's identity.

     (2)  Each employer shall post and maintain in places readily accessible to individuals in his service printed statements concerning such regulations or such other matters as the commission may by regulation prescribe.  Each employer shall supply such individuals copies of such printed statements or materials relating to claims for benefits as the commission may by regulation prescribe.  Such printed statements or materials shall be supplied by the commission to each employer without cost to him.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2015.
