SUBSTITUTE FOR
SENATE BILL NO. 981
(As amended September 30, 2014)
A bill to amend 1961 PA 236, entitled
"Revised judicature act of 1961,"
(MCL 600.101 to 600.9947) by adding section 914.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 914. (1) A person shall not intentionally contact an
individual that the person knows to be a party to a divorce action
filed with a court, or an immediate family member of that
individual, with a direct solicitation to provide a legal service
until the expiration of 14 days after the date the proof of service
was filed with the court.
(2) A person who knowingly violates this section is guilty of
a misdemeanor punishable as follows:
(a) For a first violation, a misdemeanor punishable by a fine
of not more than <<$1,000.00>>.

(b) For a second or subsequent violation, a misdemeanor
punishable by imprisonment for not more than 1 year or a fine of
not more than <<$5,000.00>>, or both.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days
after the date it is enacted into law.
