| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of David Kenly Ashbrook of | ||||||
4 | Bloomington-Normal, who passed away on August 9, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, David Ashbrook was born to Clara and Arthur | ||||||
6 | Ashbrook on a small farm near Sullivan; he attended the | ||||||
7 | University of Illinois where he met his wife, Norma; he | ||||||
8 | graduated with his lieutenant bars from ROTC and then served | ||||||
9 | two years in the Army; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, David Ashbrook had a long career in commercial | ||||||
11 | real estate sales, through which he brought many companies and | ||||||
12 | jobs to Bloomington-Normal; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, David Ashbrook was active in his community; he | ||||||
14 | served as a Unit 5 School Board member for nine years, as | ||||||
15 | president of the Corn Belt Council of School Boards, and as | ||||||
16 | director of the Illinois Association of School Boards; he also | ||||||
17 | served as president of the Friends of Milner Library and as | ||||||
18 | president of the McLean County Historical Society; he was | ||||||
19 | active in First Presbyterian Church and Habitat for Humanity | ||||||
20 | and was a great enthusiast for Barn Keepers, the McLean | ||||||
21 | County-based group devoted to preserving and celebrating old | ||||||
22 | barns; he was chaplain of the Illinois Chapter of the Sons of |

1 | the American Revolution (ILSAR) and was the ILSAR Man of the | ||||||
2 | Year in 2015; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, David Ashbrook reveled in his reputation for jokes | ||||||
4 | and pranks and loved to share family history; he was a devoted | ||||||
5 | father and grandfather; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, David Ashbrook was preceded in death by his | ||||||
7 | parents and his wife; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, David Ashbrook is survived by his daughter, | ||||||
9 | Cynthia Ashbrook Maurer; his sons, Todd and Tom Ashbrook; his | ||||||
10 | grandchildren, Dylan, Benjamin, Samuel, Kenly, Gabriel, | ||||||
11 | Lauren, Kylie, Eli, and Jonathan; his great-grandchildren, | ||||||
12 | Evie Jean, Rowan, and Isabel; and his good friend, Marge Smith; | ||||||
13 | therefore, be it

14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
16 | David Kenly Ashbrook and extend our sincere
condolences to his | ||||||
17 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it | ||||||
18 | further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| ||||||
20 | presented to the family of David Ashbrook as an expression of
| ||||||
