    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to the Correctional Education Program;
    3         amending s. 944.801, F.S.; requiring the Correctional
    4         Education Program under the Department of Corrections
    5         to develop and implement a plan to provide classes and
    6         work programs that assist inmates in preparing for
    7         licensure to practice a profession regulated by the
    8         Department of Business and Professional Regulation;
    9         requiring that the plan ensure that inmates receive
   10         credits or licenses, as applicable; providing an
   11         effective date.
   12          
   13  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   14  
   15         Section 1. Paragraph (m) is added to subsection (3) of
   16  section 944.801, Florida Statutes, to read:
   17         944.801 Education for state prisoners.—
   18         (3) The responsibilities of the Correctional Education
   19  Program shall be to:
   20         (m)Develop and implement a plan to provide classes and
   21  work programs that assist inmates in preparing for licensure to
   22  practice a profession regulated by the Department of Business
   23  and Professional Regulation. The plan must ensure that inmates
   24  receive credit for successful completion of classes or, if all
   25  requirements are met, a license.
   26         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2020.
