SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 182
Commending Physician-Parent Caregivers.

 

Agreed to by the Senate, March 8, 2024

 

WHEREAS, Physician-Parent Caregivers is a nonprofit organization and think tank that is devoted to the study of chronic medical conditions and works diligently to enhance the quality of life for young adults living with chronic medical conditions; and

WHEREAS, the young adult population of the United States, which includes those between the ages of 18 and 34, is increasingly living with serious chronic medical conditions that impact their daily life; and

WHEREAS, young adults are the least likely age group in the United States to have health insurance; 14 percent of young adults between the ages of 19 and 25 are uninsured and 12.5 percent of young adults between the ages of 26 and 34 are uninsured; and

WHEREAS, Physician-Parent Caregivers is the first and only nonprofit organization of its kind, exclusively devoted to analyzing quality health care and quality of life for young people with chronic conditions; and

WHEREAS, Physician-Parent Caregivers helps identify and address the specific needs of young adults with chronic conditions, as they are often not considered as a demographic susceptible to these conditions; providers are often untrained in treating childhood-onset conditions, and young adults with chronic conditions often face barriers to acquiring long-term quality care into adulthood; and

WHEREAS, Physician-Parent Caregivers supports additional research on this specific age group and promotes the need for proactive and preventative care to improve their quality of life and to reduce their overall cost of care; and

WHEREAS, Physician-Parent Caregivers recognizes that the fulfillment and success of young adults with chronic medical conditions is vital to the success of the Commonwealth and the United States as a whole and strives to ensure that these individuals can participate fully in their communities; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Physician-Parent Caregivers hereby be commended for its efforts to increase awareness of young adults with chronic illnesses and support research that will improve their quality of life and medical outcomes; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Physician-Parent Caregivers as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for its achievements and dedication to supporting these young adults.
