SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 173
Commending T. Vishnudatta Jayaraman, Ph.D.

 

Agreed to by the Senate, March 8, 2024

 

WHEREAS, T. Vishnudatta Jayaraman, Ph.D., a resident of the Commonwealth, was recently presented the esteemed and well-deserved Ashoka Award for Social Change by the Charles Walter's Society for Innovation & Research at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi on December 17, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Vishnudatta Jayaraman was a beneficiary of this award, owing to his position as Washington bureau chief and White House and United Nations correspondent for the News India Times; and

WHEREAS, this award was extended to Vishnudatta Jayaraman by the former governor of Arunachal Pradesh and former Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army, General J. J. Singh, and the India National Congress's former cabinet minister for tourism, Subodh Kant Sahay; and

WHEREAS, Vishnudatta Jayaraman has considerable experience in the fields of journalism, policy, and communication, and works specifically on United States and South Asian political and foreign policy; and

WHEREAS, Vishnudatta Jayaraman is a graduate of the University of Madras, where he received a master's in journalism and mass communication, as well as a doctoral degree in international relations in 2011; and

WHEREAS, Vishnudatta Jayaraman continued his educational career at Seton Hall University, receiving a master's degree in diplomacy and international relations after focusing on United States foreign policy analysis and global negotiation and conflict management; and

WHEREAS, Vishnudatta Jayaraman has dedicated his life to journalism and foreign policy, resulting in his well-deserved induction into the Ashoka Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Vishnudatta Jayaraman also received the Distinguished Service Award "For Advancing Media Coverage for the Indian Diaspora and Fostering US-India Relations" from the Indian Ambassador to the United States, Taranjit Sandhu, and Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, Winsome Earle-Sears, on January 27, 2024, in Virginia; now; therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That T. Vishnudatta Jayaraman, Ph.D., hereby be commended for his induction into the Ashoka Hall of Fame, and for being the recipient of the Ashoka Award for Social Change; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to T. Vishnudatta Jayaraman, Ph.D., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for his dedication to journalism and foreign policy.
