SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 123
Celebrating the life of Edgar Van Horn.

 

Agreed to by the Senate, March 6, 2024

 

WHEREAS, Edgar Van Horn, a longtime member of the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department and a beloved member of the Dale City community, died in February 2024; and

WHEREAS, Edgar Van Horn joined the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department (DCVFD) in 1972 and dedicated more than a half-century to protecting the residents and property of Dale City; and

WHEREAS, Edgar Van Horn rose to the rank of deputy chief with the DCVFD and was the longest-serving active member and longest-serving deputy chief of the department at the time of his passing; and

WHEREAS, Edgar Van Horn contributed greatly to the growth of the DCVFD over the years, seeing the department expand from one station to four stations with 43 pieces of apparatus; and

WHEREAS, Edgar Van Horn's leadership extended to the board of directors of the DCVFD and to several committees overseeing new station construction, apparatus purchases, equipment and fleet maintenance, fundraisers, and more; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of Edgar Van Horn's many years of service with the DCVFD, the department's new Fire Station 10 was dedicated in his name in 2009; and

WHEREAS, Edgar Van Horn will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his family and friends and the entire DCVFD community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Edgar Van Horn, a cherished leader and member of the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department whose legacy of service inspired all who knew him; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Edgar Van Horn as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's respect for his memory.
