WHEREAS, Debbie Smith, a dedicated community advocate, was honored for her faithful volunteer efforts with the 2012 Chesapeake Republican Grassroots Award; and

WHEREAS, known for her cheerful smile and positive attitude, Debbie Smith makes many contributions to the community through her civic and political engagement; and

WHEREAS, Debbie Smith generously gives of her time and talents to a number of worthy organizations, such as the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Honor and Remember, Inc., the Chesapeake Humane Society, and various veterans organizations; and

WHEREAS, Debbie Smith takes an active role in Republican party activities through her membership in the Central Chesapeake Republican Women's Club and the Republican Party of Chesapeake; and

WHEREAS, Debbie Smith serves as an officer with the Central Chesapeake Republican Women's Club and tirelessly assists in an array of tasks small and large to support Republican party efforts; and

WHEREAS, Debbie Smith helped coordinate the volunteer effort during the 2012 national campaign, working at both Chesapeake campaign offices and the Forbes for Congress office; and

WHEREAS, Debbie Smith learned a computerized volunteer management system, managed the office when needed, helped organize door-to-door canvassing, recruited volunteers, delivered signs, and volunteered to staff every campaign event in the region; and

WHEREAS, for the past two years, Debbie Smith has provided valuable assistance as the precinct captain at a polling location; and

WHEREAS, a tireless community servant, Debbie Smith is a worthy recipient of the 2012 Chesapeake Republican Grassroots Award; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Debbie Smith on her selection as the 2012 Chesapeake Republican Grassroots Award winner; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Debbie Smith as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and admiration for her strong civic spirit.
