SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 45
Commending Kathy Mack.

WHEREAS, Kathy Mack has provided delicious cuisine to the Alexandria community, as an owner of Via Veneto, a local institution that has served generations of Northern Virginia families from its location in the Hollin Hall Shopping Center for nearly 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Via Veneto was established in 1984 by Kathy Mack's mother and aunt, Marisa Fleck and Guiliana Austin, who immigrated to the United States from Marotta, Italy, and enhanced local life by serving authentic Northern Italian dishes in a warm and welcoming atmosphere; and

WHEREAS, Kathy Mack spent many years working at Via Veneto, learning every aspect of the business, which became one of the oldest family-owned and operated restaurants in Alexandria; and

WHEREAS, Kathy Mack ultimately followed in her mother's footsteps as the owner of Via Veneto, which had been named for one of the most famous and elegant streets in Rome, and continued the restaurant's traditions of excellence; and

WHEREAS, Kathy Mack often greeted regular customers by name and ensured that every guest got a true taste of Italian hospitality along with homemade pasta and other traditional family recipes, creating an incomparable dining experience for residents and visitors to the region; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Kathy Mack for her service to Alexandria residents as a restauranteur on the occasion of her retirement as owner of Via Veneto; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Kathy Mack as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for her contributions to the community.
