WHEREAS, Thomas Taylor, Ed.D., an esteemed education administrator and superintendent of Stafford County Public Schools, was named Superintendent of the Year for Region 3 of the Virginia Association of School Superintendents in 2024; and
WHEREAS, the award marks the second time that Thomas Taylor has been recognized by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents as Superintendent of the Year after he was honored by the organization in 2016 while superintendent of Middlesex County Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Taylor took the helm of Stafford County Public Schools in 2021, taking on the responsibility of leading 33 schools serving more than 31,000 students and a staff of more than 4,300 employees; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Taylor has spearheaded several effective programs to support the growth and development of the school division's students, including specialty centers to foster students' career development, and has worked with the Jed Foundation to address student mental health; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Taylor advances his profession as one of the Commonwealth's commissioners on the Education Commission of the States and through his involvement with a number of local and state educational and community boards; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Taylor holds a bachelor's degree from Virginia Wesleyan University, a master's degree in educational leadership and a doctoral degree in preK-12 education policy from the University of Virginia, and a master's degree in business administration from The College of William & Mary; and
WHEREAS, before becoming an administrator, Thomas Taylor honed his abilities as an education leader over many years as a social studies teacher and coach; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Taylor has embodied the highest virtues of the education profession through his unwavering commitment to his students and teachers, earning the esteem and admiration of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Thomas Taylor, Ed.D., for being named the 2024 Region 3 Superintendent of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Thomas Taylor, Ed.D., as an expression of the General Assembly's high regard for his contributions to Stafford County and the Commonwealth.
