SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 158
Celebrating the life of Richard Gale Elliott.

WHEREAS, Richard Gale Elliott, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, esteemed community leader and deacon, dedicated firefighter, and an active and beloved member of the Mecklenburg County community, died on August 7, 2023; and

WHEREAS, a native of Mecklenburg County, Richard Elliott served his country and the Commonwealth with honor and distinction for eight years as a member of the Virginia National Guard, attaining the rank of sergeant; and

WHEREAS, Richard Elliott began his 34-year career with the Town of Clarksville as a wastewater operator and through his work ethic and commitment to excellence rose through the ranks to serve as director of utilities and then as director of operations; and

WHEREAS, in his capacity as director of operations of the Town of Clarksville, Richard Elliott oversaw nearly every operational aspect of the locality, playing a vital role in ensuring the town was effectively managed and maintained for the benefit of its residents and businesses; and

WHEREAS, Richard Elliott bravely devoted himself to the safety of his community as a member of the Clarksville Volunteer Fire Department for 43 years, including 16 years as president and five years as assistant chief, and as a member of the Mecklenburg County Lifesaving and Rescue Squad for more than 15 years; and

WHEREAS, guided by his faith, Richard Elliott was a lifelong member of Buffalo Baptist Church in Buffalo Junction, where he served as a deacon and on the youth committee, and he later enjoyed worship and fellowship with his community at nearby Grace Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, Richard Elliott will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife of 43 years, Wanda; his children, Ricky and Andy, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Richard Gale Elliott, a cherished member of the Mecklenburg County community whose kindness and generosity touched countless lives; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Richard Gale Elliott as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
