WHEREAS, the Suffolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., will celebrate 60 years of heartfelt service to the community on September 12, 2024; and
WHEREAS, the Suffolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was chartered on September 12, 1964, as its members embraced the organization's call to recognize one's civic responsibility and to do all that one can for the well-being of others; and
WHEREAS, the Suffolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority carries out a number of innovative programs and events designed to promote educational and economic development, international awareness, physical and mental health, and political involvement, including its regional award-winning arts and letters program and its national award-winning physical and mental health program; and
WHEREAS, every holiday season, the Suffolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority sponsors children in Suffolk's foster care system, ensuring that every child in the city has a special and joyful Christmas; and
WHEREAS, in 2024, in addition to its annual distribution of thousands of dollars in college scholarships, the Suffolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will host both a college and career fair and a uniquely prepared students workshop series to connect the city's young people with opportunities and services that will help them achieve their dreams; and
WHEREAS, the Suffolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority hosts an annual health fair that fosters public health by offering free health screenings and other services and directing visitors to beneficial health resources in the community; and
WHEREAS, the Suffolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will honor the chapter's 60 years of accomplishments, the result of its members' unwavering commitment to the Christian principles upon which the organization is founded, at a luncheon on September 14, 2024; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Suffolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., hereby be commended on the occasion of its 60th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Belinda S. Pitts, president of the Suffolk Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's history and its contributions to the Commonwealth.
