WHEREAS, the Lebanon High School baseball team won the Virginia High School League Class 1 state championship at Salem Memorial Ballpark on June 10, 2023; and

WHEREAS, the Lebanon High School Pioneers defeated the Auburn High School Eagles of Riner by a score of 7–0 to bring home the championship title; and

WHEREAS, the Lebanon Pioneers were led to victory by pitcher Nathan Phillips, who threw a no-hitter and struck out 11, while stellar defensive plays and clutch hits were also a major factor in the team's success; and

WHEREAS, the Lebanon Pioneers capped a dominant 26–2 season by outscoring their opponents 88–5 in tournament play as they steamrolled their way to a championship title; and

WHEREAS, the Lebanon Pioneers' win served as a testament to the abilities of head coach Cody Compton, a former standout in baseball and basketball at Lebanon High School, who was in his first season as the team's head coach; and

WHEREAS, with many of their players returning, the Lebanon Pioneers look to keep the momentum going as they advance to the Virginia High School League Class 2 competition next year; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Lebanon Pioneers is the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their teachers and coaches, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Lebanon High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Lebanon High School baseball team hereby be commended for winning the 2023 Virginia High School League Class 1 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Cody Compton, head coach of the Lebanon High School baseball team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievement.
