WHEREAS, the Reverend Henry Godwin, an inspirational spiritual leader in Dumfries, has worked diligently to enhance the community by cultivating leaders of high character and integrity among his congregation as the senior pastor of Winners Church for All Nations; and
WHEREAS, born in Nigeria, Henry Godwin began to develop his deep faith at a young age and answered the call to the ministry when he was 19; he held various church leadership roles, including choirmaster and assistant pastor in the early years of his career; and
WHEREAS, Henry Godwin established Winners Church for All Nations, originally known as the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Winners House, on December 12, 2010; and
WHEREAS, as senior pastor, Henry Godwin has provided simple, practical teachings to help members of the congregation grow in faith and become engaged and socially responsible members of the Dumfries community; and
WHEREAS, Henry Godwin and his wife, Floral, developed the Build-to-Last and Making the Queen ministries to honor the institution of marriage and promote strong marital bonds within the congregation; and
WHEREAS, Henry Godwin developed programs to promote career advancement and business mentorship, along with ministries for high school and college students, ministries for immigrants, and ministries related to outreach and evangelism, such as Hope Alive; and
WHEREAS, under Henry Godwin's leadership, Winners Church offers generous college scholarship awards for local students and supports the community through back-to-school supply drives, an annual turkey giveaway, and cancer awareness events; and
WHEREAS, in addition to volunteering in the community, Henry Godwin has encouraged members of the congregation to take part in mission projects in foreign countries; Winners Church regularly provides meals, toys, and clothing items to a community in the Dominican Republic and has provided emergency assistance to communities around the world after natural disasters; and
WHEREAS, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Henry Godwin and Winners Church supported the community by providing groceries and household necessities to people in need, organized a panel of medical professionals to educate local residents about the importance of vaccination, and developed internal guidelines to serve the congregation safely; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Reverend Henry Godwin hereby be commended for his exceptional service to the Dumfries community as senior pastor of Winners Church for All Nations; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Reverend Henry Godwin as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his achievements as a faith leader.
