HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 436
Commending David McNair.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 8, 2024

WHEREAS, David McNair is the creator of the DTM, a local online news outlet featuring independent reporting, curated local news, and analysis on a wide variety of topics related to the Charlottesville area; and

WHEREAS, the DTM was launched by journalist David McNair in 2012 as a blog and Facebook page and quickly became an important part of the Charlottesville local media scene; and

WHEREAS, David McNair named the DTM after Charlottesville's Downtown Mall, which has been a cultural, social, and political focal point of the city since it was established as a pedestrian mall in 1976; and

WHEREAS, the DTM's coverage has expanded beyond the Downtown Mall and the platforms have changed, but the independent-minded approach to journalism remains the same; and

WHEREAS, the DTM and other independent journalism efforts have found themselves filling a void in a diminished local news landscape; and

WHEREAS, David McNair, a writer and editor with more than 25 years of experience, including as a writer for The Hook for almost a decade, works in affiliation with the Charlottesville Community Engagement outlet led by journalist Sean Tubbs to provide the citizens of Charlottesville with in-depth local analysis and coverage; and

WHEREAS, recognizing that an informed citizenry is the foundation of all democracies, David McNair has provided an invaluable service to the community of Charlottesville; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That David McNair hereby be commended for his contributions to Charlottesville and the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to David McNair as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his journalistic mission and achievements.
