WHEREAS, in May 2024, the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce proudly celebrates 65 years of uplifting the regional economy and the quality of life in the Martinsville and Henry County community; and
WHEREAS, in 1959, the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce was formed as the new "front door" for the community, as envisioned by its first president, Heck Ford, who saw the need for a hub to support existing businesses, attract new enterprises, and facilitate development; and
WHEREAS, comprising 786 businesses, enterprises, civic organizations, educational institutions, and individuals, the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce continues its legacy as the voice of the business community and strives to strengthen economic advancement in the area; and
WHEREAS, for 65 years, the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce has been a part of the rich fabric of the local business community, essential to elevating the region's promising future; and
WHEREAS, over the years, the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce has grown into an organization that exemplifies excellence by achieving five-star accreditation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a high honor that has been achieved by only three chambers in the Commonwealth and only two percent of chambers nationwide; and
WHEREAS, the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce works to support local initiatives by providing modern programs supporting tourism, education, talent initiatives, infrastructure development, government advocacy, and more to ensure that Martinsville and Henry County remain outstanding places to live, work, and play; and
WHEREAS, on the occasion of its 65th anniversary, the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce will reflect with pride upon its many accomplishments and look forward to continued service to Martinsville and Henry County; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce hereby be commended for its leadership in fostering local economic growth and success on the occasion of its 65th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for its contributions to and support for the Martinsville and Henry County community.
