HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 384
Commending Ayana's Hope Cells.

WHEREAS, Ayana's Hope Cells, a nonprofit organization serving Southeast Virginia, provides support for children with rare diseases and their families; and

WHEREAS, Ayana's Hope Cells was founded by Ayana Johnson of Suffolk, a young woman who has been battling sickle cell disease since birth; and

WHEREAS, Ayana Johnson was inspired to advocate for her fellow sickle cell disease patients and has worked diligently to enhance options for treatment and care, while raising awareness of rare diseases and the impact they can have on patients and their families; and

WHEREAS, Ayana's Hope Cells provides support to patients and families in Southeast Virginia by gifting stuffed animals that patients can reach for when experiencing the chronic pain associated with sickle cell disease; and

WHEREAS, Ayana's Hope Cells participates in outreach and advocacy events throughout the region and the Commonwealth, including commemorations of Rare Disease Day, which takes place on February 29, the rarest day of the year; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of Rare Disease Day, Ayana's Hope Cells visited the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters in Norfolk to distribute gifts and provide emotional support for children with sickle cell disease, as well as to raise awareness of rare diseases and chronic illnesses that children in Virginia are fighting every day; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Ayana's Hope Cells hereby be commended for its work to support chronically ill children in the Commonwealth on the occasion of Rare Disease Day in 2024; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ayana's Hope Cells as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the organization's service to the children of the Commonwealth.
