HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 230
Celebrating the life of Roger Smith.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 4, 2024
 

WHEREAS, Roger Smith, an honorable veteran, accomplished electrician and businessman, and beloved member of the Elliston community, died on December 19, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Roger Smith served his country with honor and distinction for four years as a member of the United States Air Force, working in telecommunications at what was formerly Langley Air Force Base; and

WHEREAS, after leaving the service, Roger Smith embarked upon a career as an electrician, working tirelessly for many years at multiple jobs until ultimately starting his own company, Sundown Electric, Inc., in 1976; and

WHEREAS, at Sundown Electric, Roger Smith led a team providing exceptional electrical wiring services to residential, commercial, and industrial clients in Montgomery County and beyond; and

WHEREAS, Roger Smith savored the good life in his free time, playing golf, farming, singing gospel music with his wife, and playing with his grandchildren whenever the opportunity arose; and

WHEREAS, guided throughout his life by his faith, Roger Smith enjoyed worship and fellowship with his community at Piedmont Pentecostal Holiness Church in Shawsville; and

WHEREAS, Roger Smith will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife, Nancy; his children, Jeffrey and Andrew, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Roger Smith, a cherished member of the Elliston community who was a source of joy and inspiration to all who knew him; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Roger Smith as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
