WHEREAS, the Town of Mount Crawford, a charming rural community in Rockingham County, celebrates its 200th anniversary in 2025; and
WHEREAS, one of the oldest communities in Rockingham County, Mount Crawford was established in 1825 and incorporated in 1895; and
WHEREAS, Mount Crawford was originally a turnpike town, offering commercial services to settlers traveling further south; the town was raided during the American Civil War and became known as a flour milling center in the post-war period; and
WHEREAS, located on U.S. Route 11, Mount Crawford remained an important thoroughfare until the construction of Interstate 81; today, the town offers a tranquil atmosphere that is only a short drive to several major urban centers; and
WHEREAS, nestled in the Shenandoah Valley, Mount Crawford provides easy access to a variety of outdoor activities and opportunities to appreciate the Commonwealth's natural and historical resources; and
WHEREAS, Mount Crawford has formed a historical committee to prepare a full slate of commemorative events and develop plans for designating Main Street as a historic district; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Town of Mount Crawford hereby be commended on the occasion of its 200th anniversary of its establishment; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Town of Mount Crawford as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the town's longevity and contributions to the Commonwealth.
