Commending the Honorable Michael P. Mullin.

WHEREAS, the Honorable Michael P. Mullin, who represented the residents of the 93rd District, retired from the Virginia House of Delegates in November 2023; and

WHEREAS, Michael "Mike" P. Mullin holds degrees from Christopher Newport University and the Catholic University of America's Columbus School of Law; after completing his education, he settled in Hampton Roads, where he began his legal career as an assistant prosecutor; and

WHEREAS, over the course of his career, Mike Mullin was certified by the Virginia Gang Investigator's Association and was active with the Virginia Bar Association and the Virginia Association of Commonwealth's Attorneys; and

WHEREAS, desirous to be of further service to the Commonwealth, Mike Mullin ran for and was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in a special election in 2016; he represented the residents of the 93rd District, which at the time included parts of Newport News, Williamsburg, James City County, and York County; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure as a state legislator, Mike Mullin introduced numerous bills to benefit all Virginians, including Heaven's Law, which changed the way social workers investigate child abuse allegations, and a bill to commemorate sites in Virginia's Green Book, which documented businesses that were safe for Black Americans traveling during the Jim Crow era; and

WHEREAS, Mike Mullin supported other measures to enhance protections for children in the justice system, end driver's license suspensions for unpaid fees and fines, and other criminal justice reforms; and

WHEREAS, Mike Mullin offered his leadership and expertise to the House Committee for Courts of Justice and House Committees on Counties, Cities and Towns, and Labor and Commerce, and he served as vice chair of the House Committee on Rules; and

WHEREAS, Mike Mullin plans to seek new opportunities to continue serving his community while spending more time with his beloved children; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Honorable Michael P. Mullin hereby be commended on the occasion of his retirement from public office; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Honorable Michael P. Mullin as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his service to the residents of the Virginia Peninsula and the Commonwealth.
