WHEREAS, Jared Antonio Farrow, an internationally acclaimed stand-up comedian, actor, and impressionist hailing from Chesapeake, officially launched the Pharoah Phamily Phoundation at a luncheon on August 5, 2023, at Luce Secondo in Chesapeake; and
WHEREAS, Jared Farrow, better known by his stage name Jay Pharoah, graduated from Indian River High School in Chesapeake and then earned degrees from Tidewater Community College while honing his talents at clubs in the Hampton Roads area; and
WHEREAS, Jay Pharoah's big break into the entertainment business came in September 2010 when he appeared on the legendary sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live, where his pitch-perfect impressions of celebrities and public figures would ultimately garner him a spot on the show's primary cast; and
WHEREAS, Jay Pharoah has regularly drawn inspiration for his performances from the individuals he met throughout his childhood, and he maintains a strong connection to his hometown of Chesapeake by giving back to the community whenever he can; and
WHEREAS, 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the Jay Pharoah Fine Arts Scholarship, which is awarded to graduating seniors at Indian River High School who are interested in pursuing careers in the arts; and
WHEREAS, with the aim of fostering the next generation of creative thought leaders through art program augmentations, curated opportunities, and training camps, Jay Pharoah and his family established the Pharoah Phamily Phoundation in 2023; and
WHEREAS, Jay Pharoah's Pharoah Phamily Phoundation is a nonprofit charity dedicated to narrowing the gap between arts education and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education, ensuring that artistically inclined students in Chesapeake benefit from myriad opportunities along their educational journeys; and
WHEREAS, Jay Pharoah has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to his community and an unwavering desire to kindle the creativity and ambitions of young people in Chesapeake, helping to make the city a more wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Jared Antonio Farrow hereby be commended for his philanthropic initiatives that have benefited numerous Chesapeake students in their pursuits of careers in the arts; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jared Antonio Farrow as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his accomplishments and his contributions to the Commonwealth.
