HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 1
Celebrating the life of James Anderson Wood.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 15, 2024
 

WHEREAS, James Anderson Wood, a respected community leader in Virginia Beach and a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died on March 28, 2023; and

WHEREAS, James "Jim" Anderson Wood grew up in Arlington and graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1959; he served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserve for 10 years before his honorable discharge with the rank of captain; and

WHEREAS, Jim Wood worked in sales and as regional manager for what is now the Exxon Mobil Corporation for three decades; he was also a successful real estate investor and served for more than 20 years as an appointee to the Virginia Beach Board of Zoning Appeals; and

WHEREAS, Jim Wood touched countless lives in the community through his generosity and servant leadership; he volunteered his time and wise insights to the Thalia Elementary School PTA, the local Cub Scout pack and Boy Scout troop, and Thalia Trinity Presbyterian Church; and

WHEREAS, Jim Wood brought joy to others through his kindness, compassion, and sense of humor; he and his wife, Dot, were accomplished world travelers who relished every opportunity to make new memories together; and

WHEREAS, Jim Wood will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved wife of 64 years, Dot; his sons, James and William, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of James Anderson Wood, a highly admired member of the Virginia Beach community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of James Anderson Wood as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
