WHEREAS, in 2023, two Arlington Public Schools students each received a scholarship to pursue an undergraduate degree in the fast-growing fields of computer science and engineering and an internship offer from Amazon through the Amazon Future Engineer program; and
WHEREAS, as winners of the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship, Kimberly Montesflores Gonzalez of the Arlington Career Center and Naomi Lindsay of Wakefield High School each received a $40,000 scholarship and a paid internship to work at Amazon after their freshman years of college; and
WHEREAS, the Amazon Future Engineer program is Amazon's global philanthropic computer science education initiative, which aims to increase student access to computer science education by funding professional development for educators and engaging computer science curricula for students; and
WHEREAS, the Amazon Future Engineer program helps students explore real-world applications of computer science and accounts for unique cultural perspectives to enhance diversity and inclusion in the field; and
WHEREAS, the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship was established in 2019 and has awarded millions of dollars to hundreds of students in underserved and historically underrepresented communities across the nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Arlington Public Schools' recipients of the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship for their hard work and dedication to their studies; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to Arlington Public Schools' recipients of the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship as an expression of the General Assembly's heartfelt congratulations and best wishes in their future endeavors.
