HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 141
Commending Lafayette Lodge No. 137 of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.

WHEREAS, Lafayette Lodge No. 137 of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, a venerable fraternal organization serving the communities of Luray and Page County, commemorates its 200th anniversary in 2024; and

WHEREAS, Lafayette Lodge takes its name from the Marquis de Lafayette, who famously fought alongside President George Washington at the decisive Battle of Yorktown during the Revolutionary War; and

WHEREAS, the Lafayette Lodge was chartered by the Grand Lodge of Virginia in December 1824, a few months after the Marquis de Lafayette began his historic and highly celebrated grand tour of the United States; and

WHEREAS, the first master of Lafayette Lodge was Morgan Adolphus Lauck, son of Revolutionary War hero Peter Lauck, who was joined by members from local lodges in Front Royal and Winchester, including senior warden, Edwin T. Robinson; junior warden, Charles H. Flinn; and brothers John M. Tump, J. D. Miller, Jasper Ball, William B. Whittney, and Daniel Flinn; and

WHEREAS, the Lafayette Lodge was chartered 12 years after the founding of Luray in 1812 and seven years before the creation of Page County in 1831 and has been a pillar of both communities ever since; and

WHEREAS, beyond offering its members brotherly friendship and camaraderie, the Lafayette Lodge makes an impact in Luray and Page County by sponsoring a number of youth and community organizations, as well as charities beyond the region; and

WHEREAS, the steadfast commitment of the members of the Lafayette Lodge to the core principles of their organization has helped to make Luray and Page County wonderful places to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Lafayette Lodge No. 137 of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons on the occasion of its 200th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robbie Painter, worshipful master of Lafayette Lodge No. 137 of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's history and its contributions to the Commonwealth.
