HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 101
Commending Peter A. Blake.

WHEREAS, Peter A. Blake, the recently retired director of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, served the Commonwealth for 38 years in various capacities in the executive and legislative branches, including as Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Education, as staff to the House Committee on Appropriations, and as vice chancellor at the Virginia Community College System; and

WHEREAS, Peter Blake provided outstanding service to the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) throughout his tenure and strong leadership of the agency since 2011; and

WHEREAS, Peter Blake forged strong relationships with and unwavering responsiveness to the administrations of 10 governors of the Commonwealth and members of the General Assembly for 39 sessions; and

WHEREAS, Peter Blake brought unparalleled excellence and integrity to his work on behalf of SCHEV to develop innovative statewide postsecondary policies and to manage its system-wide planning, academic, budgetary, consumer-protection, and student service functions; and

WHEREAS, Peter Blake earned the respect of SCHEV members, executive and legislative staff, institutional chief executive officers, and his agency colleagues for his vision, knowledge, compassion, steadfast work ethic, and experience; and

WHEREAS, Peter Blake worked tirelessly for almost four decades to bring together constituencies from across the Commonwealth to promote and improve higher education; and

WHEREAS, Peter Blake was recognized by his national peers in 2022 with the Exceptional Leader Award from the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association; and

WHEREAS, Peter Blake left an indelible legacy, not only at his agency but on all of Virginia higher education, to the benefit of students, their families, and all citizens of the Commonwealth for generations to come; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Peter A. Blake for his exceptional service to the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Peter A. Blake as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his dedication and service.
