Margaret Louise Cawood | ||
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens | ||
of McAllen in mourning the loss of Margaret Louise Cawood, who | ||
died January 4, 2015, at the age of 82; and | ||
WHEREAS, Margaret Louise Berens was born July 2, 1932, to | ||
Leroy and Mary Berens; she grew up in the foothills of the Rocky | ||
Mountains near Denver and attended the University of Denver and | ||
Saint Luke's Hospital School of Nursing, and she graduated with | ||
honors in 1954; and | ||
WHEREAS, She served the nation with distinction in the | ||
United States Air Force Nursing Corps and rose to the rank of | ||
first lieutenant; during her military service, she met Jack | ||
Cawood, and the couple married in 1957; they raised three | ||
children together, David, Mary Ann, and Paul, and were blessed | ||
with several grandchildren and a great-grandson; and | ||
WHEREAS, She was active in the lives of her children and | ||
her community; she served as director of the oral history program | ||
of the Commemorative Air Force and helped preserve the air combat | ||
stories of veterans of World War II and the Korean War; she also | ||
served as president of the Rio Grande Valley Woodcarvers; and | ||
WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, | ||
and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by | ||
her family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th | ||
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
family of Margaret Louise Cawood; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
memory of Margaret Louise Cawood. | ||
