| Elva Longoria Cortez | ||
| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens | ||
| of McAllen in mourning the loss of Elva Longoria Cortez, who died | ||
| December 31, 2014, at the age of 69; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Elva Cortez was an exemplary citizen, and she was | ||
| admired throughout the community for her many kind works and her | ||
| remarkable generosity; and | ||
| WHEREAS, She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who | ||
| was dedicated to her family and to the principles of her faith; and | ||
| WHEREAS, While serving as the First Lady of McAllen, she | ||
| supported her husband, Richard Cortez, in his leadership | ||
| endeavors, and she served on the boards of the Mayor's Prayer | ||
| Luncheon and the Salvation Army; she and her husband raised four | ||
| children; and | ||
| WHEREAS, She represented the City of McAllen with dignity | ||
| and humility; she was a compassionate woman, and she and her | ||
| daughters and grandchildren delivered toys to needy families in | ||
| Hidalgo County during Christmas holidays; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Elva Cortez gave unselfishly of her time to | ||
| others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be | ||
| forgotten by those who knew her; she leaves behind memories that | ||
| will long be cherished by her family and many friends; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th | ||
| Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved | ||
| family of Elva Longoria Cortez; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas | ||
| Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in | ||
| memory of Elva Longoria Cortez. | ||
