| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| join Texans across the state in celebrating April 18, 2023, as | ||
| Baylor Day at the State Capitol; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Baylor University was established on February 1, | ||
| 1845, by an act of the Congress of the Republic of Texas; the | ||
| oldest continually operating university in the state, this | ||
| private Christian university provides a vibrant campus community | ||
| to nearly 21,000 students; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A highly acclaimed undergraduate and Tier 1 | ||
| research institution, Baylor University offers, in addition to | ||
| baccalaureate degrees, master's degrees and doctoral degrees as | ||
| well as a juris doctor degree and two education specialist | ||
| programs; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Baylor University is home to a variety of | ||
| exceptional athletic programs, with more than 500 student athletes | ||
| who compete at the highest level in sports and consistently rank | ||
| among the nation's best university students; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The combination of interdisciplinary research and | ||
| faculty commitment to teaching and scholarship have served to | ||
| create an institution with an international reputation for | ||
| educational excellence, and it is indeed fitting that the | ||
| school's many contributions to higher education in Texas be | ||
| recognized and celebrated; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
| Legislature, hereby commend Baylor University on its commitment | ||
| to educating future leaders and extend to the university's | ||
| students, faculty, and staff best wishes for a memorable and | ||
| rewarding Baylor Day at the State Capitol; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in | ||
| honor of this special occasion. | ||
