| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Elizabeth Noel Harwerth on her appointment to the | ||
| Order of the British Empire by King Charles III of the United | ||
| Kingdom; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This prestigious honor is bestowed biannually by | ||
| the monarch of the United Kingdom upon eminent individuals who | ||
| have distinguished themselves through their exceptional service | ||
| and contributions to society; Noel Harwerth has been recognized | ||
| with this honor for her outstanding accomplishments and her | ||
| dedicated service in the field of international trade; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A Laredo native, Noel Harwerth serves as chair of | ||
| the UK Export Finance agency and is a member of the board of the | ||
| UK Department of Business and Trade; she earned her undergraduate | ||
| and juris doctor degrees from The University of Texas at Austin, | ||
| and she has made many notable achievements over the course of her | ||
| career in banking and trade; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Previously, Mrs. Harwerth served as chief | ||
| operating officer of Citibank International PLC in London; she | ||
| was appointed partnership director of the London Underground | ||
| by the Government of the United Kingdom and was appointed to | ||
| the board of the Tote and served as audit chair; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Highly respected for her leadership and | ||
| expertise in administration and finance, Mrs. Harwerth | ||
| currently serves on the boards of One Savings Bank and Scotia | ||
| Bank Europe, and she has previously held roles on the boards of | ||
| such influential banks and corporations as Standard Life, | ||
| London Metals Exchange, and Bank of England; she is also a | ||
| liveryman of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers, | ||
| chair of the UK chapter of Woman Corporate Directors, and a | ||
| member of the International Women's Forum; and | ||
| WHEREAS, International trade plays a key role in creating a | ||
| more peaceful global society, and through her diligence and | ||
| strong leadership, Mrs. Harwerth has made significant | ||
| contributions to the United Kingdom; she credits her upbringing | ||
| and education in Laredo as the bedrock of her decades-long | ||
| success in international business, and she and her fellow Texans | ||
| may take pride in her many achievements and in the special | ||
| recognition bestowed upon her with this exceptional honor; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th | ||
| Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend Elizabeth Noel | ||
| Harwerth on her appointment to the Order of the British Empire | ||
| and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in | ||
| all of her endeavors; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
