WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the | ||
passing of Sid Stafford of Hallsville on November 2, 2022, at the | ||
age of 103; and | ||
WHEREAS, Sid Stafford was born to Mae Marie and William | ||
Robert Stafford on July 30, 1919, in Madill, Oklahoma, and grew up | ||
with two siblings, Ruby and Junior; coming of age during World War | ||
II, this courageous American joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and served | ||
in North Africa and Italy as a mechanic with the 755th Tank | ||
Battalion; and | ||
WHEREAS, On June 4, 1951, Mr. Stafford married the love of | ||
his life, the former Nita Waldron; the couple made their home in | ||
Raymondville, Texas, where Mr. Stafford raised a variety of crops, | ||
including cotton and grain, before they settled in Hallsville in | ||
1964; Mr. Stafford went on to enjoy a career with the Jordan | ||
Employment Service in Longview until his retirement at age 62; in | ||
his leisure hours, he continued his horticultural pursuits, | ||
maintaining an expansive garden; a man of faith, he was an active | ||
congregant of First Baptist Church of Hallsville, where he served | ||
as a deacon and as Sunday school superintendent; and | ||
WHEREAS, Valuing his family above all else, Mr. Stafford and | ||
his wife shared a rewarding marriage that spanned nearly seven | ||
decades before her passing; he took great pride in their three | ||
daughters, Beverly, Brenda, and Beth, and with the passing years, | ||
he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include eight | ||
grandchildren, Ashley, Jennifer, Miranda, Thomas, Charity, Rachel, | ||
Caleb, and Chad, and numerous great-grandchildren; and | ||
WHEREAS, Admired for his unfailing optimism, warm and | ||
generous nature, and keen sense of humor, Sid Stafford touched | ||
countless lives during his journey on this earth, and he will | ||
forever be a source of inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, | ||
therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature | ||
hereby pay tribute to the memory of Sid Stafford and that sincere | ||
condolences be extended to his loved ones; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this | ||
day, it do so in memory of Sid Stafford. |
