R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Del Rio High School boys' track and field team
  achieved great distinction by winning the 91st annual Border
  Olympics, held March 3 and 4, 2023, in Laredo; and
         WHEREAS, The Border Olympics traces its origins to 1932, when
  it started as a track meet then known as the International Frontier
  Olympics; over the years, this celebrated event has grown to
  encompass collegiate golf and tennis tournaments as well as high
  school baseball, softball, soccer, basketball, and cross country
  competitions in addition the track and field contests; and
         WHEREAS, Facing off against athletes from 20 schools in South
  Texas, the Rams tallied a final score of 84 en route to collecting
  their second-straight team championship, besting their nearest
  opponent by 21 points; and
         WHEREAS, Del Rio was especially impressive in the relay
  events; the foursome of Juan Peralta, Emmanuel Devonte Reyes, Zane
  Hughes, and Jovahn West clocked a time of 43.08 seconds in the
  400-meter relay to take home the gold; in the 800-meter relay,
  Mr. Peralta, Ethan Vasquez, Mr. Hughes, and Mr. West won the gold
  and set a meet record with a time of 1 minute, 30.23 seconds;
  moreover, the quartet of Alex Rodriguez, Rolando Rios, Jose Ortiz,
  and Elian De La Paz finished in fifth place in the 1,600-meter
  relay; and
         WHEREAS, In the individual events, Mr. Hughes secured the
  silver medal in the 200-meter dash and was named a top-10 athlete in
  the boys' division; Mr. West also received that honor for his
  performance, which included finishing fifth in the 100-meter dash
  and soaring 21 feet, 10 inches, in the long jump to claim the bronze
  medal; Alan Dobbins placed third in both the high jump, with a leap
  that cleared 6 feet, and in the triple jump, with a distance of 41
  feet, 10.5 inches; fourth-place finishes were garnered by Mr. De La
  Paz in the 400-meter dash, Isaac Jimenez in the shot put, and Manuel
  Padilla in the discus; and
         WHEREAS, The Rams were also represented at the meet by Aaron
  Acosta, Cristian Briones, Jose A. Martinez, Steven McBlain, Perry
  Mcintire, Jonathan Mendoza, Jose Ramirez, Juan Ramos, Andres
  Rivera, Jayden Rivera, Hugo Rosales, Ricardo J. Torres, and Andrew
  Villarreal; these dedicated student-athletes were ably guided by
  head coach Ricardo Torres and assistant coaches Luis Esparza, Ariel
  Falcon, Ramiro Frausto, David Ruiz, and Chris Wren; and
         WHEREAS, The Del Rio Rams have excelled through skill, hard
  work, and an enduring commitment to excellence, and they may
  reflect with pride on a job well done; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Del Rio High School boys' track
  and field team on winning the 2023 Border Olympics and extend to the
  athletes, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
