| WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Command Sergeant | ||
| Major Charles Russell Turbeville of Copperas Cove suffered an | ||
| immeasurable loss with his passing on November 30, 2023, at the age | ||
| of 66; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Charles Turbeville was born on June 7, 1957, in | ||
| Charleston, South Carolina; he earned a bachelor of science degree | ||
| from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a master of arts | ||
| degree in education from the University of Phoenix; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Turbeville | ||
| enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1975, first serving with the 4th | ||
| Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort | ||
| Bragg, North Carolina, as a cavalry scout; he was later stationed at | ||
| Fort Rucker, Alabama, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, U.S. Army Garrison | ||
| Humphreys, South Korea, Fort Hood, Texas, and Dolan Barracks, | ||
| Germany, and he deployed with Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm | ||
| to provide air traffic control support; at the time of his | ||
| retirement from federal service in 1995, he was first sergeant of | ||
| the Headquarters Troop, 3rd Squadron, 6th Cavalry, 6th Cavalry | ||
| Brigade at Fort Hood; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Command Sergeant Major Turbeville went on to join | ||
| the Texas State Guard in 2013, and in the course of his exemplary | ||
| eight-year tenure, he served as the senior enlisted advisor for the | ||
| Texas Medical Brigade and as the SEA for the 1st Battalion, 2nd | ||
| Regiment, Army Component; his military awards and decorations | ||
| included three Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation | ||
| Medals, the Korean Defense Service Medal, three Texas Outstanding | ||
| Service Medals, five Texas Medals of Merit, the Texas Faithful | ||
| Service Medal, and the Texas State Guard Service Medal; and | ||
| WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Command Sergeant Major | ||
| Turbeville enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Brenda, and | ||
| their two children, Megan and Adam; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Charles Turbeville lived a rich and purposeful life | ||
| dedicated to his family, his state, and his nation, and he leaves | ||
| behind a legacy of public service that his loved ones can remember | ||
| with pride; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas | ||
| Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory | ||
| of U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major Charles Russell Turbeville and | ||
| extend deepest condolences to his relatives and friends; and, be it | ||
| further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charles | ||
| Turbeville. | ||
