relating to an optional bad weather policy for public schools. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 25.081, Education Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subsection (c) to read as follows: | ||
(c) The board of trustees of each school district that | ||
exceeds the full 7 hours of instructional time required by Section | ||
25.082(a) by at least one half hour daily for the full academic year | ||
may adopt a policy to credit the additional time to the number of | ||
instructional days required by Subsection (a). The excess time may | ||
be accumulated in amounts up to but not exceeding ten (10) days each | ||
year for days missed due to dangerous or extreme weather | ||
conditions. Unused accumulated days for excess instructional time | ||
shall not carry over to a school year other than the year in which | ||
the time was accumulated. After a district credits each day in | ||
accordance with this subsection, the district shall notify the | ||
commissioner in writing. | ||
SECTION 2. Section 42.005, Education Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: | ||
(a-1) For any school day credited in accordance with Section | ||
25.081(c), the daily attendance shall be reported as the quotient | ||
calculated under Subsection (a)(1). | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
