AN ACT

Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated

2

Statutes, in operation of vehicles, further providing for

3

drivers of emergency vehicles.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

5

hereby enacts as follows:

6

Section 1.  Section 3105(f) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania

7

Consolidated Statutes is amended and the section is amended by

8

adding a subsection to read:

9

§ 3105.  Drivers of emergency vehicles.

10

(f)  Pedalcycles.--No part of this section shall be construed

12

to restrict the operation of a pedalcycle used by a police

13

officer or a bike medic during the course of performing official

14

duties.

(i)  Definition.--As used in this section, "bike medic" means

17

an individual who:

18

(1)  operates a pedalcycle that is equipped to provide

medical, rescue or disaster services in response to a medical

2

emergency or traumatic injury or in search and rescue

3

operations conducted by the individual;

4

(2)  is a member of an emergency medical service provider

5

recognized by the Department of Health;

6

(3)  has attained the minimum certification of first

7

responder or emergency medical technician;

8

(4)  has successfully completed a basic emergency medical

9

services cycling program administered and approved by a

10

nationally recognized organization or certifying body;

11

(5)  wears a distinctive uniform; and

12

(6)  makes use of an appropriate visual and audible

13

warning device in the performance of official duties during

14

the response or search and rescue operations.

15

Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
