A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life of Jean Stoneback of Alburtis.

2

WHEREAS, Jean Stoneback died peacefully on September 2, 2010;

3

and

4

WHEREAS, Throughout her long life, Jean was an active member

5

and friend of her community of Alburtis, of which she was a

6

lifelong resident except for a brief period as a newlywed; and

7

WHEREAS, Due to her persuasion, Lehigh County purchased the

8

former Thomas Iron Works site in Alburtis and developed Lock

9

Ridge Park, which was dedicated in 1976; and

10

WHEREAS, In addition to serving as a park tour guide, Jean

11

inaugurated the park's annual May Day celebration and provided

12

leadership for a variety of its seasonal festivals; and

13

WHEREAS, On Sunday, June 2, 2010, Jean Stoneback celebrated

14

her 90th birthday anniversary with many of her friends; and

15

WHEREAS, Jean became a well-known local columnist as a result

16

of her weekly column, "From my Kitchen Window," that appeared in

17

the East Penn Press; and

WHEREAS, Jean was also well-known for the many shows that she

2

staged at the Lock Ridge Church to showcase local talent; and

3

WHEREAS, She was a guiding force of the Alburtis Camp Fire

4

Chapter, which her mother founded; and

5

WHEREAS, Under her leadership, the Dad Daughter Association

6

obtained a parcel of land, donated by James Geissinger, upon

7

which a cabin meeting house was built, and it is still used

8

today for meetings and fundraisers; and

9

WHEREAS, Jean received many awards for her community service

10

and for her numerous publications, including the Community

11

Spirit Award and Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association

12

awards; and

13

WHEREAS, Jean Stoneback's life was likened by one of her many

14

lifelong friends to the lyrics of the Louis Armstrong song: "She

15

saw skies of blue and clouds of white; she saw bright pleasant

16

days and dark sacred nights, and she thought to herself, 'What a

17

Wonderful World!'"; therefore be it

18

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life of

19

Jean Stoneback.
