        CONGRATULATING  LaKaiya  Butcher upon the occasion
        of being named an  NJCAA  Division  III  Third  Team
        All-American   by   the   NJCAA  Women's  Basketball
        Committee

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor talented
collegiate athletes  who  distinguish  themselves  and  their  community
through outstanding academic and athletic performance; and

  WHEREAS,  Athletic  competition  enhances  the  moral  and  physical
development of the young adults of this State, preparing  them  for  the
future  by  instilling  in  them  the  value  of teamwork, encouraging a
standard  of  healthy  living,  imparting  a  desire  for  success,  and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

  WHEREAS,  This  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud to congratulate
LaKaiya Butcher upon the occasion of being named an NJCAA  Division  III
Third Team All-American by the NJCAA Women's Basketball Committee; and

  WHEREAS,  A freshman at Jefferson Community College, LaKaiya Butcher
played a significant role in leading  the  Cannoneers  to  the  national
Division  III tournament as the team's leading scorer; she averaged 17.3
points per game and started all 29 games as a 5-foot-11 guard; and

  WHEREAS, A former Indian River  player,  LaKaiya  Butcher  currently
plays  for  Jefferson  Community  College  and  has contributed to their
successful season with a record of 24-5 and advancing to  the  Region  3
championship  game  and  then  to  the  NJCAA  nationals  in  Rochester,
Minnesota; and

  WHEREAS, LaKaiya Butcher will be playing on  a  team  that  includes
players  from  other  colleges  such as Hudson Valley Community College,
Joliet, Illinois, Monroe-Bronx, and Dallas-Mountain View, Texas; and

  WHEREAS, LaKaiya Butcher has distinguished herself as a young  woman
of  superlative ability, talent, and maturity, establishing standards of
excellence and achievement, purposefulness of life,  and  responsibility
rarely achieved in youthful years; and

  WHEREAS,  LaKaiya  Butcher may stand with pride in her achievements,
experiencing  the  satisfaction  of  her  labors  and  the  joy  of  her
accomplishments,  eager  to face the challenge of new experiences as she
continues in her athletic and educational career; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
congratulate  LaKaiya  Butcher upon the occasion of being named an NJCAA
Division III Third Team All-American by  the  NJCAA  Women's  Basketball
Committee; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to LaKaiya Butcher.
