Bill Title: Permits an incorporated firemen's benevolent association created by act of the legislature to include the following in the purposes of the association without an additional act of the legislature; to promote friendly association for the betterment of the members of the corporation; to promote relations between the members of the corporation and the local community; to provide relief, aid and assistance to those members and their families who are injured, disabled or indigent; to provide for the health and safety of the members of the corporation; to maintain suitable headquarters for the members of the corporation; to acquire real and personal property such as may be necessary for the purposes set forth in this section; to study and disseminate among the members of the corporation the most efficient manner of fighting fires; and to promote the volunteer fire service within the territory now served or which may hereafter be served by the fire department associated with such corporation.

STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 7314 2023-2024 Regular Sessions IN ASSEMBLY May 17, 2023 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. BURDICK -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Local Governments AN ACT to amend the not-for-profit corporation law, in relation to expanding the purposes of certain firemen's benevolent associations The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The not-for-profit corporation law is amended by adding a 2 new section 206 to read as follows: 3 § 206. Expansion of purpose; certain firemen's benevolent associations. 4 An incorporated firemen's benevolent association created by act of the 5 legislature may include the following in the purposes of such associ- 6 ation without an additional act of the legislature: 7 (a) to promote friendly association for the betterment of the members 8 of the corporation; 9 (b) to promote relations between the members of the corporation and 10 the local community; 11 (c) to provide relief, aid and assistance to those members and their 12 families who are injured, disabled or indigent; 13 (d) to provide for the health and safety of the members of the corpo- 14 ration; 15 (e) to maintain suitable headquarters for the members of the corpo- 16 ration; 17 (f) to acquire real and personal property such as may be necessary for 18 the purposes set forth in this section; 19 (g) to study and disseminate among the members of the corporation the 20 most efficient manner of fighting fires; and 21 (h) to promote the volunteer fire service within the territory now 22 served or which may hereafter be served by the fire department associ- 23 ated with such corporation. 24 § 2.
