STATEMENT

This bill is special legislation to permit the Township of Toms River in Ocean County to appoint Christian Kant to its police department although his age is greater than the maximum age allowed under N.J.S.40A:14-127.

The bill also would require the Board of Trustees of the Police and Fireman's Retirement System of New Jersey to accept Mr. Kant into the retirement system provided he pays into the system the contribution due and payable from the date of his original appointment. The bill would take effect upon its adoption by ordinance of the Township of Toms River.

Mr. Kant has been employed by the Toms River Police Department for over two years.  The chief of that department, Mitchell A. Little, views Mr. Kant as a valuable asset to the organization and supports Mr. Kant's continued employment with the department and his enrollment in the Police and Fireman's Retirement System.  Mr. Kant also is a decorated veteran of "Operation Iraqi Freedom."
