A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING KRISTI VOSS ON BEING SELECTED AS THE 2011 STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI AT&T FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS, Kristi Voss, an exceptional athlete who competed in the 2011 State Games of Mississippi 5K Road Race, was selected as the 2011 State Games of Mississippi AT&T Female Athlete of the Year; and

WHEREAS, determination, strength, endurance and discipline are qualities that Kristi demonstrates every day through her dedication to running; and

WHEREAS, Kristi demonstrated her exemplary running skills at the State Games of Mississippi in June 2011, winning the gold medal in the 5K Road Race; and

WHEREAS, an athlete all of her life, Kristi found running while in college and has won and placed in several marathons, even qualifying for the Boston Marathon, a feat in itself; and

WHEREAS, Kristi considers her greatest achievement as a runner to be her completion of a half Ironman triathlon, a race covering 70.3 miles, consisting of a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike ride and concluding with a 13.1 mile run; and

WHEREAS, ever the optimist, Kristi has made it a personal goal to complete a full Ironman competition, a race consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride and concluding with the running of a full marathon of 26.2 miles, covering an expansive 140.6 miles; and

WHEREAS, Kristi is kept busy at home as the proud mother of three children, yet she still finds time for her daily training, rising early each morning to train while her family sleeps; and

WHEREAS, an outstanding athlete who has made quite the impression on those in her company as she strives to perform her utmost best for her team, Kristi showcases great sportsmanship and strong compassion to win, translating into an effortless ability to stand out as an exceptionally rare sports talent; and

WHEREAS, Kristi's enthusiasm and talent for running reflect great pride upon herself, her family, her teachers and the State of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the citizens of this state, such as Kristi Voss, whose talent brings great honor to herself, her family, her community and the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Kristi Voss on being selected as the 2011 State Games of Mississippi AT&T Female Athlete of the Year and express best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Kristi Voss and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
