1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating Abdirahman Kahin of Afro Deli and Grill on being named
1.3Minnesota Small Business Person of the Year.
1.4WHEREAS, each year, the U.S. Small Business Administration names one outstanding
1.5small business owner from each state as Business Person of the Year; and
1.6WHEREAS, this award recognizes business owners who embody the spirit of entrepreneurship
1.7and represent the vibrancy, innovation, and determination of the nation's small businesses; and
1.8WHEREAS, the 2023 Minnesota Small Business Person of the Year is Abdirahman Kahin,
1.9CEO and founder of Afro Deli and Grill; and
1.10WHEREAS, Afro Deli and Grill is a fusion restaurant that offers a taste of African,
1.11Mediterranean, and American flavors in a fast-casual environment that seeks to meld business,
1.12community, and culture; and
1.13WHEREAS, Abdirahman opened the first Afro Deli and Grill location in Minneapolis'
1.14Cedar-Riverside neighborhood in 2010 with the goal of filling a gap in the Twin Cities food scene.
1.15He has since expanded to four successful locations in Minneapolis and St. Paul; and
1.16WHEREAS, Abdirahman will be recognized on Sunday, April 30 and Monday, May 1 during
1.17the National Small Business Week awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. At the event, one of the
1.18state/territory winners will be announced as the 2023 National Small Business Person of the Year;
1.19and
1.20NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.21commends Abdirahman Kahin on being named the Minnesota Small Business Person of the Year
1.22and wish him continued success with Afro Deli and Grill and in all his future endeavors.
1.23BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.24enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.25Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Abdirahman Kahin.
