1.1A Senate resolution
1.2honoring Varun Sagi for being named a National Merit Scholarship
1.3Program Finalist.
1.4WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for
1.5recognition and scholarships that began in 1955; and
1.6WHEREAS, high school students enter the National Merit Scholarship Program by
1.7taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which serves as an
1.8initial screen of approximately 1.5 million entrants each year; in late September, about 34,000
1.9of the approximately 50,000 high scorers received Letters of Commendation in recognition of
1.10outstanding academic promise; and
1.11WHEREAS, some 15,000 Semifinalists were notified by mail at their home addresses that
1.12they had advanced to Finalist standing. High school principals are notified and provided with a
1.13certificate to present to each finalist; and
1.14WHEREAS, Varun Sagi, a student at Eden Prairie High School, was recently notified of
1.15National Merit Finalist status, a noteworthy honor deserving of legislative recognition; and
1.16NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.17congratulates Varun Sagi on being named a National Merit Finalist Student.
1.18BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.19enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.20Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Varun Sagi.
