1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to state government; designating March 31 as Cesar Chavez Day;
1.3proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 10.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.5    Section 1. [10.555] CESAR CHAVEZ DAY.
1.6(a) March 31 shall be known as Cesar Chavez Day to celebrate the growing
1.7Latino community in Minnesota. Latinos constitute a major demographic group in the
1.8state. Dedicating March 31 of each year as Cesar Chavez Day provides the citizens of
1.9Minnesota the opportunity to learn about and appreciate the Latino community and their
1.10contributions to our state.
1.11(b) As a community organizer, Chavez improved the lives and working conditions
1.12of millions of Latinos nationwide. He dedicated his life to advocating for labor rights,
1.13political representation for ethnic minorities, environmental justice, registering voters,
1.14and improving literacy for farm workers.
