HOUSE BILL NO. 5637

April 18, 2024, Introduced by Reps. Churches, Conlin, Martus, Brenda Carter, Brixie, Hood, Edwards, Dievendorf, Arbit and Tsernoglou and referred to the Committee on Tax Policy.

A bill to require the adjustment of reimbursements made to child care providers under the child development and care program for inflation; and to provide for the powers and duties of certain state and local governmental officers and entities.

the people of the state of michigan enact:

Sec. 1. As used in this act:

(a) "Child care provider" means that term as defined under section 2 of the child protection law, 1975 PA 238, MCL 722.622.

(b) "Department" means the department of lifelong education, advancement, and potential.

(c) "Detroit Consumer Price Index" means the most comprehensive index of consumer prices available for the Detroit area from the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.

(d) "Program" means the child development and care program.

Sec. 3. Beginning on the effective date of this act, reimbursements made to a child care provider under the program must be adjusted for inflation annually using the Detroit Consumer Price Index.
