1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of John J. Roth of Jacksonville, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on April 3, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Roth was born in Kampsville to John Jacob and | ||||||
6 | Elizabeth Catherine Nordbusch Roth on April 20, 1933 and moved | ||||||
7 | to Jacksonville in 1937; he attended Our Saviour Grade School | ||||||
8 | and graduated from Routt High School in 1951; he graduated from | ||||||
9 | Hardin-Brown Business College in 1953 with a degree in business | ||||||
10 | administration; he joined the U.S. Navy on February 4, 1953 and | ||||||
11 | was assigned to the Destroyer USS Basilone for four years as an | ||||||
12 | electronics technician 2nd class; he married Patricia Ann | ||||||
13 | Craddock on December 26, 1953; he was released from active duty | ||||||
14 | on February 4, 1957 and served four years in the Navy Reserve; | ||||||
15 | he was honorably discharged in 1961; and

16 | WHEREAS, John Roth joined the IBM Corporation in February | ||||||
17 | of 1957 as a customer service representative responsible for | ||||||
18 | maintenance and repair of data-processing computers; he | ||||||
19 | retired in May of 1987; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, John Roth was a life member of VFW, Jacksonville | ||||||
21 | Post 1379; he served on the Combined Veteran's Ceremonial Team | ||||||
22 | for more than 30 years; he was a member of Church of Our |

1 | Saviour, where he sang in the choir for several years; he | ||||||
2 | enjoyed hunting, fishing, three-cushion billiards, and | ||||||
3 | stained-glass work; and

4 | WHEREAS, John Roth married Marie Coonen in 2006; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Roth was preceded in death by his wife of 47 | ||||||
6 | years, Patricia; his parents; his sisters, Margaret Mary | ||||||
7 | Caskey, Eunice Helen Keehner, and Leona Josephine Deeder; and | ||||||
8 | his daughter, Lori A. Olendzki; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, John Roth is survived by his wife, Marie; his | ||||||
10 | sons, J. Thomas (Kathryn), Joseph T. (Diana), and David J. | ||||||
11 | Roth; his son-in-law, Don Olendzki; eight grandchildren; three | ||||||
12 | great-grandchildren; and Bill and Lori Coonen and their | ||||||
13 | children and grandchildren; therefore, be it

14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
16 | John J. Roth, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | ||||||
17 | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to the family of John Roth as an expression of our | ||||||
20 | deepest sympathy.
