SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dearl Morris of Peoria, who passed away
4on September 29, 2014; and
5 WHEREAS, Dearl Morris was born in Grantsburg on December
619, 1926 to Roy E. and Minnie V. (nee Nelson) Morris; he served
7in the United States Navy during World War II; he married Norma
8M. Saltsman in Peoria on July 5, 1947; after the passing of his
9first wife, he married Julia G. Smith on September 23, 1989 in
10Chillicothe; and
11 WHEREAS, Dearl Morris worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 40
12years, retiring in February of 1985 as the Worldwide
13Foodservice Manager; in recognition of his excellence in the
14foodservice industry, he was awarded the prestigious Silver
15Plate Award from the International Foodservice Manufacturers
16Association on May 22, 1978; he was also a founding member of
17the Heart of Illinois Restaurant Association; and
18 WHEREAS, After retirement, Dearl Morris continued his
19hobby of making homemade chocolates for friends and family; his
20expertise and creativity became known in the Peoria area over
21the years, and in December of 2005 he was featured in a Peoria
22Journal Star article naming him "Peoria's Candyman"; and

1 WHEREAS, Dearl Morris was preceded in death by his parents;
2his first wife, Norma; his second wife, Julia; 2 brothers,
3Hartsel E. Morris and Covel E. Morris; and one sister, Jewel A.
4Street; and
5 WHEREAS, Dearl Morris is survived by one son, Dearl E.
6"Skip" (Paula) Morris; one step-son, Ross (Linda) Smith; 2
7step-daughters, Laura (Len) Berg and Cindy (Dan) Erickson; 2
8granddaughters; 4 step-granddaughters; 3 step-grandsons; and 2
9great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
10 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Dearl Morris, and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
13friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Dearl Morris as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
