2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Douglas James "Doug" Wyman of Oak | ||||||
4 | Park, who passed away on February 24, 2023 at the age of 95; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Doug Wyman was born to Frank and Kathleen Wyman | ||||||
7 | in Detroit, Michigan on January 9, 1928; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Doug Wyman and his wife, Barbara, moved their | ||||||
9 | family to Oak Park and Ascension Parish 58 years ago; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Doug Wyman had a professional career as a | ||||||
11 | printing salesman, during which he started his own consulting | ||||||
12 | firm, Sales Directors; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Doug Wyman became known as a sales guru in the | ||||||
14 | printing industry, conducting seminars throughout the country; | ||||||
15 | and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Doug Wyman co-wrote multiple books on how to | ||||||
17 | train successful salespeople and was known for his tag line - | ||||||
18 | There is no such thing as a cold call, rather, warm people who | ||||||
19 | need your help; and

1 | WHEREAS, Doug Wyman served as a lector and eucharistic | ||||||
2 | minister at Ascension Parish in Oak Park and was a celebrated | ||||||
3 | participant in the parish theatrical productions; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Doug Wyman was among the founders of a faith | ||||||
5 | community called Extending the Word, which brought him some of | ||||||
6 | the closest friendships of his life and where he assumed the | ||||||
7 | role of spiritual elder; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Doug Wyman and his wife, Barbara, lived for 38 | ||||||
9 | years on what he called the best block in Oak Park, 1000 South | ||||||
10 | Scoville, with the most loving and supportive neighbors; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Doug Wyman was a tireless social justice | ||||||
12 | advocate, as an early volunteer with PADS, now known as | ||||||
13 | Housing Forward, an organization dedicated to helping end | ||||||
14 | homelessness; he was a member of Ascension's Peace and Justice | ||||||
15 | Committee, had a passion to end gun violence, and also was a | ||||||
16 | champion fundraiser for the annual Crop Walk to end hunger | ||||||
17 | worldwide; and

18 | WHEREAS, Doug Wyman became well known in local political | ||||||
19 | circles through his work with the Village Manager Association, | ||||||
20 | from 1968 to 2018, which was tasked with choosing good | ||||||
21 | candidates to run for Oak Park village government; and

1 | WHEREAS, Doug Wyman's varied connections and relationships | ||||||
2 | led to him becoming a radio personality as co-host of the Doris | ||||||
3 | Davenport Show, also known as All Things Local; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Doug Wyman's legacy will include the ability to | ||||||
5 | find fun in every situation, persistence, service, good | ||||||
6 | citizenship, eternal optimism, and the ability to encourage | ||||||
7 | and inspire others; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Doug Wyman's romantic devotion to his wife, | ||||||
9 | Barbara, was manifested when he served as her caregiver during | ||||||
10 | the many years she suffered with Alzheimer's disease before | ||||||
11 | she passed away after 69 years of marriage; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Doug Wyman was the father of David (Danita), | ||||||
13 | Larry (the late Laura), Mark (Sylvia Nieves), Jim (Joy), Mary | ||||||
14 | (Bruce Corson), Ann (Dale Amtower), Joe (Katy), John (Allyn), | ||||||
15 | and Gerald (Krista) Wyman; the grandfather of Melissa, Alisha, | ||||||
16 | Amanda, Chris, Dylan, Nick, Samantha, Daniel, Kathleen, Mila, | ||||||
17 | Tesla, Terry, Sophie, and Paul; the great-grandfather of 15; | ||||||
18 | the brother of the late Desmond (Josephine), Peggy Wyman, and | ||||||
19 | Jane (Douglas Kirkland); and the adopted father of many | ||||||
20 | cousins and friends; therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

1 | Douglas James "Doug" Wyman and extend our sincere condolences | ||||||
2 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | ||||||
3 | it further

4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||

6 | deepest sympathy.
