Bill Title: Declares the week of January 22 through January 28, 2023 as CRNA Week in the State of Illinois. Recognizes the importance of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists (SRNAs) and their roles in providing high-quality care for the people of Illinois.

SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs)
3are advanced practice registered nurses who are among the most
4trusted health care professionals, having provided
5high-quality anesthesia care to patients in the United States
6for more than 150 years; and
7 WHEREAS, There are more than 1,900 CRNAs in Illinois that
8safely administer approximately 1.9 million anesthetics to
9patients each year; and
10 WHEREAS, CRNAs are the predominant providers of anesthesia
11in 79% of Illinois counties, primarily in rural communities,
12and are the only providers of anesthesia in 29% of Illinois
13counties, enabling health care facilities in these medically
14underserved areas to offer obstetrical, surgical, trauma
15stabilization, and pain management services; and
16 WHEREAS, CRNAs practice in every setting in which
17anesthesia is delivered, including traditional hospital
18surgical suites and obstetrical delivery rooms, ambulatory
19surgical centers, the offices of dentists, podiatrists,
20ophthalmologists, and plastic surgeons, and the medical
21facilities of the U.S. military, the U.S. Public Health
22Service, and the Department of Veterans Affairs; and

1 WHEREAS, During the COVID-19 pandemic, CRNAs were
2instrumental in helping emergency rooms and ICU centers treat
3patients, utilizing their expertise in airway management,
4intubation, and ventilator management to care for patients;
5and
6 WHEREAS, Research conducted by the Research Triangle
7Institute shows that is no difference in safety or patient
8outcomes between CRNAs and physician anesthesiologists; and
9 WHEREAS, CRNAs are qualified to make independent judgments
10regarding all aspects of anesthesia care based on their
11education, training, and record of safety; and
12 WHEREAS, CRNAs are trusted anesthesia experts on the front
13line, delivering specialized, cost-effective care to all
14patients, from newborns to seniors, for every type of
15procedure and in all types of facilities; therefore, be it
16 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare the week of
18January 22 through January 28, 2023 as CRNA Week in the State
19of Illinois; and be it further
20 RESOLVED, That we recognize the importance of Certified

5 RESOLVED, That we express our gratitude and appreciation
6for the CRNA profession and encourage patients, hospital
7administrators, health care professionals, policymakers, and
8others to participate in National CRNA Week to become more
9familiar with the CRNA credential and the exceptional advanced
10practice registered nurses who have earned it; and be it
11further
12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the Illinois Association of Nurse Anesthesiology
14as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
