2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Sister Kathleen Ryan of | ||||||
4 | Aurora on winning the Aurora Deanery Council of Catholic Women | ||||||
5 | Award for her contributions to the community; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Sister Ryan is the founder and director of the | ||||||
7 | Dominican Literacy Center in Aurora; along with other nuns and | ||||||
8 | volunteers, she founded the center in 1993 to give immigrant | ||||||
9 | women free tutoring in reading, writing, and speaking English; | ||||||
10 | since its founding, the center has aided more than 2,500 women; | ||||||
11 | a separate program prepares immigrant women and men to take the | ||||||
12 | United States citizenship exam; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Sister Ryan was among 15 women from 14 Fox Valley | ||||||
14 | churches honored at the Aurora Deanery Council of Catholic | ||||||
15 | Women's 10th annual Catholic Women of Inspiration awards dinner | ||||||
16 | held at the Gaslite Manor in Aurora on September 14, 2014 and | ||||||
17 | attended by a record 480 people; and

18 | WHEREAS, Sister Ryan is a member of the Dominican Sisters | ||||||
19 | of Springfield; therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
21 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
