Senate Resolution 116 - Introduced SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 116 BY COMMITTEE ON RULES AND ADMINISTRATION A Resolution honoring the public service of Senator 1 Hubert Houser. 2 WHEREAS, Hubert Houser comes from a family that has 3 long been involved in public service to Iowa, with both 4 his grandfather and brother holding public office; and 5 WHEREAS, Senator Houser began his own public service 6 in Pottawattamie County serving on the Pottawattamie 7 County Board of Supervisors, the Carson-Macedonia 8 School Board, and the Pottawattamie County Economic 9 Development Board; and 10 WHEREAS, Hubert Houser was elected to the House of 11 Representatives in 1992, beginning over 20 years of 12 legislative service; and 13 WHEREAS, in 2004, Senator Houser was first 14 elected to the Senate, where he has now served for 10 15 years; and 16 WHEREAS, over the next decade Senator Houser served 17 on a variety of legislative committees, including 18 the Agriculture, Appropriations, Labor and Business 19 Relations, Local Government, Natural Resources and 20 Environment (Chair), Transportation, Ways and Means, 21 and Economic Growth/Rebuild Iowa (Ranking Member) 22 standing committees, and the Agriculture and Natural 23 Resources Appropriations Subcommittee (Vice Chair); and 24 WHEREAS, Senator Houser is known as an adept floor 25 manager, acting as the primary floor manager for 26 the mental health reforms and property tax relief 27 legislation enacted in 1995 and for the Iowa community 28 -1- LSB 6196SV (7) 85 jr/nh 1/ 2
S.R. 116 empowerment legislation enacted in 1998 that enhanced 1 Iowa’s leadership by engaging education, health, and 2 human services agencies at the state and local levels 3 to address school readiness and the needs of young 4 children, now known as Early Childhood Iowa; and 5 WHEREAS, Senator Houser also served on the 6 Legislative Council and the International Relations 7 Committee of the Legislative Council, the Iowa Economic 8 Development Authority Board, and the Iowa Power Fund 9 Board; NOW THEREFORE, 10 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate honors 11 Senator Hubert Houser for his decades of service on 12 both the state and local level and wishes him all the 13 best in the future. 14 -2- LSB 6196SV (7) 85 jr/nh 2/ 2
