SENATE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

URGING THE LEGISLATURE TO PRESERVE, PROTECT, AND RESTORE NATIVE HAWAIIAN LIMU.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, last year, limu kala was designated as the state limu of Hawaii; and

 

     WHEREAS, Native Hawaiian limu populations have been severely damaged by the effects of climate change, development, and runoff; and

 

     WHEREAS, healthy Native Hawaiian limu populations and healthy nearshore ecosystems support food security and biodiversity and help to combat the negative effects of climate change; and

 

     WHEREAS, actions to support Native Hawaiian limu also support healthy reefs and nearshore ecosystems; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2024, the House of Representatives concurring, that this body is urged to preserve, protect, and restore Native Hawaiian limu to the full extent of its capability; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor.
